I have always been into sport, football dominated my youth and continued to do so into my 20s. I was brought up in a footballing family, relatives played at the highest level so it was only natural that it was a passion and pastime of mine from early on. Luckily, and something that has come in very useful in recent years is the fact that my parents ensured I learnt to swim at an early age, I swam for my local club through to my mid teens which was great fun. I also dabbled with bat and ball on the cricket field but could never get used to the long periods of in-activity both on and off the field despite playing at a reasonable level. In my mid 20s following a broken leg (fibula) and then 6 months later a broken foot (metatarsal) I decided it was time to call a halt to my footballing days and seek a new sporting challenge. A friend at the local leisure centre suggested I giving Triathlon a go, at first I thought he was crazy but soon realised I was also crazy as I rejoined my swimming club a good 10 years on, found myself out on the bike with local cyclists and down the track with the local running club. I had become a triathlete........ and to be honest from that day on late in 1987 my life and my whole outlook on life was to change for the better. Ever since I became a triathlete I have done some amazing things, travelled to some amazing places, met and worked with some amazing people, including my wife Tanja. On th back of this I have also forged a career working in sports nutrition since the early 90's. Competing in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii on 3 occassions, helping many of the worlds best sports people achieve their goals is very rewarding ...... long may it continue.
